Start thinking about choosing a mover and signing the acceptance note. Take some time to sort through your basement, loft, and garage and decide what to do with prohibited items. Make proper arrangements for your pets, and decide whether or not you’re taking your car with you.
Start getting rid of any things you don’t want to take with you.
Begin preparing a mailing list of people and organizations that need to know your new address, such as your bank, credit card companies, and magazine subscriptions. Next, hire any necessary purchasing or rental companies, and gather important documents like passports, birth/marriage certificates, and other family documentation. Make sure also to check that your electrical appliances will work in your new home.
Separate your children’s favorite toys, make sure your pet’s vaccinations are up to date, arrange for mail to be forwarded, and decide whether or not to buy any new household goods.
Start deciding which clothes you want to take with you, dismantle climbing frames/garden furniture, make arrangements to start utility services at your new home and return any library books.
Defrost your refrigerator and freezer, plan simple meals for moving day, separate any luggage items you need for personal travel, and clean garden tools, bicycles, and other gardening equipment. Make sure to empty the tanks of powered tools such as lawnmowers and have enough medication for at least two weeks, along with copies of any necessary prescriptions. Collect traveler’s checks or local currency and arrange for someone to look after the children on moving day.
